When pictures of Motorola's next flagship were leaked, the tech community criticized Lenovo for making Motorola loose the "X-factor". And indeed it did, replacing it with the "Z-factor".
The Moto Z was announced at Lenovo Tech World in San Francisco, on 9th June, along with the Lenovo Phab 2, a 6.4 inch phone with Google's Project Tango.
The Moto G and it's successor, the Moto G(2nd Gen) were without a doubt the best phones in the price range of 100-200$ since their release. Let's see what the 3rd Gen of this affordable Android phone has in store for the customers.
From the raw performance perspective, the newest Moto G packs in a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 clocked at 1.4 GHz and quad cores. The accompanying GPU is the Adreno 306 along with 1 GB or 2 GB of RAM, depending on the version of the phone (8 GB or 16 GB). Both the versions support microSD cards for expanding the memory so that isn't a big issue.
You're in for a surprise in the camera section as this affordable phone packs the same 13 MP f/2.0 sensor as the Nexus 6! It even features a Dual Tone LED flash. The front camera is a 5 MP shooter. The display spans 5" with a resolution of 720p which means the pixel density would be decent.
Connectivity wise, the phone is pretty well equipped with 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.1. The phone will come out of the box with Lollipop 5.1.1 and will most probably be updated to Android M.
The battery is huge for a sub-200$ phone at 2470 mAh and with Motorola's power efficient phones, this phone could potentially work for 2 days for low to medium usage. Some of the biggest changes include the addition of an IPX7 rated design, meaning that the phone is water resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.
The phone is priced at 180$ for the 8 GB model and 220$ for the 16 GB model.
While the Moto G might not feature massively overhauled hardware from its predecessor, that’s really never been the point. Ever since the Moto X and Moto G lines debuted, Motorola has prided itself it putting the customer experience ahead of pure specs. With improved design, waterproofing, a great camera, a ton of customization options, and other improvements, that’s exactly what we have with the latest Moto G.

Motorola has just announced the successor to it's budget phone, the Moto E. It looks like Motorola has been listening to it's customers and the new Moto E definitely includes some much required improvements.
The new Moto E has 8GB of internal memory instead of 4GB, 4G LTE connectivity (learn more about LTE in India), and a new 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. Other improvements include a bigger screen (4.5" instead of 4.3"), although it still has the same resolution (960x540) but how much can you ask for? It also includes a bigger battery (2390 mAH vs 1980 mAH).
There is also something in for the shutterbugs as the 2nd Gen Moto E has a 5MP primary camera and a VGA (0.3MP) front camera which wasn't present in the predecessor. This model will cost 149$ and there is also a 3G model in the works according to the Motorola website which should be cheaper than this one.
The new Moto E comes with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Also, instead of a removable full back cover, only the perimeter of the phone is removable which gives the user access to the SIM card slot as well as a microSD memory expansion slot.

Motorola has finally officially announced the much awaited Moto X+1 (it's official name is just Moto X) along with the successor of the highly successful budget Android phone Moto G and the first in-ear wearable Moto Hint which I won't be covering in this article.
Design
The 2 single lines on the top and bottom of the screen which were first introduced in the low-cost Moto E make their way into the new Moto X and Moto G and I have a feeling that this will have mixed reviews from different people and will end to personal choice.
Thankfully, the bezels are thin (*coughs* HTC) and this results into a phone that will rest comfortably in your hand despite having a decent 5.2" screen.
The Motomaker software is also available so that you can make your Moto X your own. But interestingly enough, the specs hint that the standard version will have 16 GB of storage and you will HAVE to buy a 32 GB phone if you buy it through Moto Maker. And it also looks like the wood versions will be available.
Software
Motorola has been releasing near stock Android phones for a year or so now and this phone is no exception. It comes with stock 4.4 Kitkat out of the box and I can pretty much guarantee that it will receive Android L when it comes out. Obviously, it also includes some of Motorola's apps like Assist but those don't feel like bloatware.
Camera
The Moto X was criticized for it's 10 MP shooter that under performed but Motorola seems to have solved this with a 13 MP F 2.25 rear camera which also shoots 4K video. If you were surprised that there is no LED flash at the back, you will be even more surprised to know that the flash is actually in the form of a ring around the camera. The front facing camera is a 2 MP shooter with 1080p recording.
Motorola has a unique camera LED setup which goes around the lens

The Moto G 1st edition was a great success in the USA and even a greater one in India. It was launched on February 6, 2014 exclusively on flipkart.com and the 16 GB version sold out in just 15 minutes which costed 14,000 INR (~232.5 USD) which was probably the start of an awareness of stock Android in the people of India. A similar thing happened with the Moto E and that too, was exclusively on Flipkart. Anyways, let's get started about the 2nd Gen Moto G!
There are not many changes in the design as compared to last year's model except the added bars on the top and bottom which are new also in the Moto X. So, I'll straightaway compare the specs of both the models and tell you what's improved this year.
Differences from last year's model:
Thinner; 11 mm vs 11.6 mm.
Bigger screen: 5 inches vs 4.5 inches.
Heavier: 149 gms vs 143 gms.
Lower pixel density: 294 ppi vs 329 ppi.
Higher resolution cameras: 8 MP vs 5 MP(main) and 2 MP vs 1.3 MP(front-facing).
Lesser battery life: I assume this because of better specs and the same 2070 mAH battery.
Disadvantage: Same processor, RAM and GPU.
Technical specs:
Operating system: Android 4.4.4 KitKat®
Capacity Storage (ROM): SS-8GB
SIM card slot: Micro SD Card Slot

That's it guys. Let me know in the comments section if I missed anything, any ways to improve my writing or ANY other suggestion. Keep reading! :)
Motorola has become the latest hardware maker to have its name linked with an upcoming Nexus device. According to details first discovered by TechTastic, a Motorola smartphone code named "Shamu" could ultimately arrive as the Nexus 6.
Alleged benchmark scores indicate that the phone performs in line with others that run a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. More specifically, it could have processing prowess similar to the Samsung Galaxy S5 or HTC One M8. Aside from the handset's project name, little is known about the Motorola Shamu. Still, the moniker does fit in nicely with previous Nexus products, such as "Flounder" for the Nexus 8.
The Russian tech site posits that the Nexus 6 should feature a 1080p HD display. Based on previous Nexus smartphones, I am inclined to agree with the assessment.
Google typically dials the specifications down to just below the top-tier for its own Nexus line. Perhaps in an effort to keep costs competitive, we don't often see anything bleeding edge from this family.
Conflicting report
Newer, conflicting details published August 13 suggest the Nexus 6 could offer users a much more powerful experience. According to the GFXBench listing, the handset could pack a 5.2-inch QHD display, 3GB of RAM, and Qualcomm's latest and greatest processor. With 32GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel camera capable of recording 4K video, the Motorola Shamu sounds like a killer whale to be sure.
One thing to keep in mind when dealing with Nexus rumors is that they are almost always subject to conflicting reports. In fact, previous reports indicated that Google had turned to LG once again for the Nexus line. Motorola's involvement could be a swan song before future parent Lenovo officially grabs the phone-maker away from Google.
As to when we'll see this Nexus 6, the launch date remains unclear, but there's a good chance we'll see it sometime this fall when Google publicly releases Android L. The last few generations of Nexus handsets each made their debut around October, so we could still be a few months away.
Today Motorola has announced a new low end Android device targeted mainly for the Indian market. If you have any expectations for this phone, then forget it. The Moto E is the kind of phone which you can give your grandparents as a cheap and durable but easy to use phone.
The Moto E is similar in looks to the Moto G.
Features:
The Moto E has lesser specs than that of the G, with a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 display (covered by Gorilla Glass 3 and an anti-smudge coating), 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage (with a microSD slot), a 1,980 mAh Li-ion battery and a 5-megapixel main camera with no LED flash.
The pixel density works out to be about 256 ppi which is good enough considering the price. Motorola has managed to ship the phone with Android 4.4 Kitkat out of the box and promises that the Moto E will receive all future updates of Android. Also, the UI looks to be very close to stock with the exception of some Motorola features/apps.
Pricing:
As you would expect, it is very competitively priced at 7000 Rs(~117$) in India, $129 in the US and £89 in the UK. Surprisingly, the Moto E is the first device ever to be cheaper in India than in other countries and even with a dual sim variant!
Official Video:
Bonus Easter Egg by Motorola in this video. Pause at 0:40 and you can read "Android 4.4.3"! But when? :P
Note: The Moto E is available in India exclusively on flipkart.com from 14th May 2014 midnight. If you want to buy a cheap phone (even as a spare one), it is going to sell like hot pancakes, so be ready! Also, flipkart is offering 50% off on Moto E covers on the launch day.
Conclusion: During the on-stage announcement, Motorola called out the Galaxy S4 for being slower than the E in basic metrics like time to return to the homescreen from within an app. It's obviously not as capable as the S4 in terms of raw power, but if we've learnt anything from the Moto G, it's that Motorola knows how to get the best of mediocre components.
The Moto E is the perfect first phone for your son/daughter studying in primary or your old father/ grandfather. Don't expect anything out of the camera, it just does the basics right.

When it's April 1st, you kind of know not to believe everything you see online. Nowadays, tech companies have a lot of fun besides innovating awesome new technology. And this year, mostly all major companies are involved from a legacy I believe was created by Google. Google has always been an awesome company which can be dubbed as a "Community of Geeks" (if it isn't offensive :P) But this year was really special because even sites like The Pirate Bay were involved. Anyways, here is a list of all pranks that I found. Btw, I will keep updating this list whenever I find new ones.
Google Maps: Google release an update to Google Maps yesterday in which when you update the app, open it, press on the search bar and press start, it takes you to a virtual world in which Pokemons are hidden everywhere and the first person to collect them all wins! They also released a pretty hilarious video.
Samsung Fingers: Samsung was the first one to mock wearable devices this year and this was probably the most detailed prank in the history of April Fool's day including specifications and everything. See whole article here.
HTC Gluuve: HTC was quick to follow in the footsteps of Samsung (didn't see that coming XP) and mocked a wearable HTC M8 lookalike with BoomSound and a camera. Read the full article here.
PA Hover: Perhaps this April Fool's joke hurt me the most. Paranoid Android, a custom ROM maker, were teasing Hover, a remake of Halo(floating window feature) and I was super happy to know they finally announced it. But it was just another prank :( The Google+ post is here.
Youtube Trends: Almost every department of Google have their own prank so who can stop YouTube? In a released video, YouTube "revealed" every viral video ever was meticulously crafted by the YouTube staff and they even predicted the future viral videos of 2014. Extra tip: If you search "clocking" on YouTube, you will see a stick figure clock! (See the video below if you don't know what clocking means)
XDA Boots: XDA is another geek community who always have fun while making awesome new ROMs. Today, XDA announced "Boot" which allows any user to request to 'boot' their account which basically means they won't be able to access it for the specified duration of time. Full article here.
Nokia 3310: The Nokia 3310 is one of the most famous "non-smart" phones ever. It is speculated that Chuck Norris once dropped his Nokia 3310 and it caused an earthquake in Haiti :P Anyways, the only thing that held back the 3310 was it's camera. But this is no longer. Nokia officially announced that they will be re-releasing the 3310 with a 41 MP pureview camera!! Read full article here.
Google Chrome emoji: The Chrome department of Google release an update to the Play Store and Apple App Store with a simple slogan, "Emojify the Web". After installing the update, you can see in the menu, an option to "Translate to Emojis", clicking which, will try to translate the text into Emojis! If you are reading this on Chrome browser on you iPhone or Android device, tell me what things in this article are Emojified in the comments section! Watch the full video here.
Oppo O lenses: Oppo is desperately trying to join the "Elite" smartphone manufacturers of the world and in my opinion, it is succeeding! When the engineers at Oppo aren't designing a next-gen 2K display, they design O-lenses! O-lenses are smart contact lenses that everybody dreams of! Read full article here.
Sony power food: This prank is pretty simple. The people at Sony have discovered a new enzyme called Voltaic enzyme. This enzyme can convert food fats directly to power and you can be saved at crucial times!
Google Magic Hand: This prank comes from the Japan division of Google. The Google Japanese input keyboard has a swipe to type feature and this "magic hand" is basically a joystick which can make it easier for touch controls. The video also contains other little jokes like wearing your magic hand as a tie! Note: Turn on the Closed Captioning in English as the video is in Japanese.
Motorola Boot animation: The work environment at Motorola has become very similar to Google after it's acquisition and take over by Lenovo. A few days ago, it was confirmed that Google had started asking manufacturers to brand boot animations with a specific "Powered by Android" lockup as part of Google's Mobile Services license. Samsung's Galaxy S5 and HTC's new One M8 both carry the branding, and today Motorola's Moto X and Moto G have joined the party, but Motorola has something else in store as well - a new boot animation just in time for April Fools Day. The animation features a UFO, bigfoot, and the Loch Ness Monster, all exposed by Motorola's spotlight. Check out the full sequence below.
The Pirate Bay: The Torrent search giant announced that they deleted all torrents and now we can see, feel and hear Pirate Bay. Read full article here.
Virgin Mobile Canada: Smart Shoes were the only thing left and Virgin Mobile Canada has made it a reality in the form of a April fool's prank. There are two versions of this "smartshoe": Smartsneak and Smartletto. Read full article here.
Mycolorscreen's MyColorLife: Mycolorscreen is the best Android homescreen theming sites and today they released a video stating that from now on, they will also help in "theming" your home, choosing wallpapers, locks etc. If you own an Android device, I personally recommend you to go to Mycolorscreen for theming your device!
Chromecast for squirrels: Squirrels need entertainment as well, don't they? That's why Google decided to make chromecast in a way that is very easy for squirrels to watch shows like "Squirrels got Talent" on their TV from the internet!
Google+ Auto Awesome David Hasselhoff: Google+'s Auto Awesome feature is really awesome and for today, the Baywatch star can photobomb into any of your photos!
Franco Kernel updater: Okay, this is another one of those Android power user kind of things. The Franco Kernel is a kernel for Nexus devices that makes your device feel super fast and smooth. There is also an app on the Play Store called the Franco Kernel Updater which helps you to easily update your kernel whenever a new version is available and the money can also help +Francisco Franco to develop. Franco posted on Google+ today that the app is free from today. But after checking the Play Store, I got sad. Well played Franco, well played. :P
Swiftkey Flow Hard: This is the only April Fool's prank that is quite awesome and actually works! Swiftkey is a very famous aftermarket Android keyboard and I think it recently made an appearance in iOS as well. Swiftkey Flow Hard allows you to swype with your physical keyboard and it worked almost 6/10 times for me in the test space thay have provided. Read the full article and try swiping here!
CyanogenMod: If Paranoid Android was involved into April fool's day, what can stop Cyanogenmod? In yesterday's nightly, Cyanogenmod turned all ringtones into voices of sheep!
Samsung Galaxy Spoon: Our friends at Samsung Austria seem to understand our passion for food and taking pictures of food. The Samsung Galaxy Spoon allows you to eat and share picture of the food that you are putting in your mouth in real-time. There is also a feature where you can receive a warning message when you have eaten too many calories or when the food is still too hot for your mouth. Now all wehave to wait for is the Samsung Galaxy Dinner table set.
Samsung Fli-Fy: Samsung Mobile UK has unveiled Samsung Fli-Fy pilot scheme in London. Fli-Fy, a micro-router, delivers free Wi-Fi and is able to connect thousands of devices with superfast download speed by enabling Micro-routers on pigeons. Pigeons have hollow legs, which allow for an electric charge to flow up into the micro-router; pigeons can keep the network powered by simply standing on power lines. So no worries about the power supply. This innovative pilot scheme can potentially support up to 20G network, which is super innovative super-fast. If this pilot scheme is successful, Samsung will roll out the network across the entire UK. This will also include the release of the free Samsung Fli-Fy app – available on Samsung Apps – which will allows users to check the strength of their local network. So next time you see pigeons, feel free to feed them and keep your wi-fi karma going strong.
Samsung Puppy Fit: To have a healthy relationship with your puppy, it is not only important for you to stay healthy, but it is also important for your puppy to stay fit as well. A relationship is a two way street and both parties need to put effort into it. Samsung Puppy Fit will help your dog get in shape with its various innovative features. We have no idea how many colors Samsung Puppy Fit comes in, but so far the dog communities seem to show their enthusiasm with their tails.

Google had previously stated that they would soon be adding wearable tech support for Android as a result of the wave of new wearable devices. Well, today, Google announced Android Wear, a platform specifically designed for wearable devices and to me, it looks like a winner.
So, the Android Wear platform is basically Google Now that runs on your wrist and delivers notifications. They have also previewed a video showing what could potentially be made using this technology.
Smartwatches based on Android Wear are compatible with any Android device running 4.3 or above but this is not tested and confirmed yet. I was hoping Google made it compatible for all devices 4.0 and above because so many devices are stuck on ICS or 4.1
Moto 360
In other but related news, Motorola have announced a new beautiful smartwatch that runs on the Android Wear platform and they too have created a video explaining the watch.
Motorola have emphasized in the video that how previous wearable tech on the wrist had a rectangular display as standard but they want to change this.
The Moto 360 is the best looking smartwatch till date according to me and it is very similar to a Triwa smartwatch concept showcased earlier, which you can see here. Motorola blog post here. moto360.motorola.com
Edit: The LG G Watch is the official partner of Google and it is officially announced. Read about it here.

If you have been following this blog, you would probably have read my impressions of the Moto G. If you haven't I highly recommend you read that article here before reading this one.
With the holidays and Christmas coming up, get ready to get confused on which gifts to give but under a budget of about 200$. Stop worrying! Today, I bring you two "budget" phones but they won't feel like budget phones in the hand: Moto G and Nexus 4. Yes, the Nexus 4, last year's Google flagship phone is this year's budget phone.
I will compare these two products which are essentially Google's as Motorola is now owned by Google. This comparison will follow a similar pattern to my iPad Mini vs Nexus 7(2013) article.
Size:
As you can see from the picture, the Moto G is much smaller than the Nexus 4 and fits comfortably in hand. This doesn't meant that the Nexus 4 is hefty, but if you have small hands or come from an iPhone, I would recommend the Moto G due to its size if specifications don't matter to you.
Weight:
The weight of both the phones is pretty much neck-and-neck so it doesn't even matter because you cannot fell a difference of 4 grams in your hands.
Build and feel in hand:
It is quite obvious that the Nexus 4 is "prettier" than the Moto G. The Moto G doesn't have the rugged back of the Moto X but it sports the same dimple below the camera which seems to be Motorola's signature now.
Display:
The Nexus 4 offers a screen bigger by 0.2" but the Moto G's pixel density is higher. It all depends on what you want: sharpness or size.
Software:
Moto G just received the kitkat update and this means that none of the phone come with 4.4 out of the box but they have an OTA ready.
Storage:
Both the phones come in an option of either 8 or 16 GB of internal memory with no SD Card slot for expandable memory.
Connectivity:
Both the devices come with Wi-fi b/g/n support but the Nexus 4 also supports dual band Wi-fi. LTE is not officially supported on any of the devices but there is a hack for the Nexus 4 to enable LTE. Bluetooth 4.0 is present on both but only the Moto G supports Bluetooth LE(Low Energy).
Battery:
Despite the similar battery capacities — 2070mAh for the Moto G, 2100mAh for the Nexus 4 — there’s a night-and-day difference in longevity between the two devices. I never had any trouble getting a full day — and then some, more often than not — out of the Moto G, but the Nexus 4 has never wowed me with its battery life. Much of the difference in longevity is likely down to the CPUs being used in the phones. The Nexus 4’s Snapdragon S4 Pro is powerful, but power-hungry, while the Moto G’s Cortex A7 cores don’t perform as well in demanding apps, but are supremely efficient.
Processor:
On paper, the Snapdragon S4 pro used in the Nexus 4 is better but in day-to-day life or even in heavy games, you will only be able to notice a minor difference in performance.
RAM:
The Nexus 4's 2 GB RAM is definitely better for multitasking.
Cameras:
The Nexus 4's 8MP camera compared to the 5MP camera on the Moto G is definitely better for shutterbugs. But, I would warn you not to expect great pictures from budget phones.
Prices:
The Moto G starts from 179$ for the 8GB variant and 199$ for the 16GB variant while the Nexus 4 starts from 199$ for the 8GB model and 249$ for the 16GB model.
Extra things:
The Nexus 4 has a support for wireless charging if you have a thing for it. Moto G has a removable and replacable back cover with multiple color options. The Moto G also packs other extra features like Motorola Assist and Trusted Bluetooth. You can read the full specifications of both the phones here and here.
Conclusion:
As I always say, it all depends on what suits the best for you. At the end, it is your choice and the person you are gifting to has to live with it :P In my opinion, the Nexus 4 is definitely better but you do pay for it.
If you are an Apple user coming to Android, the Moto G would be a good kick starter.

Motorola announced the Moto G, a lower end model of the Moto X today. It's specifications scream "low-mid end phone" and there is nothing particularly good in software as well. But one major plus point is that it brings us stock android with no manufacturer skin(yay!) and Motorola has said in their blog that the Moto G will be updated to Android 4.4 Kitkat in the beginning of 2014.

New Snapdragon 400 processor
Interchangeable back covers with multiple color choices.
Price: USD$179 with 8GB of storage and USD$199 for 16GB of storage.
Battery life: Motorola is sure famous for their battery life and this is the time to prove. With just a 1950 mAH battery, Motorola claims it can last a day. Let's see...
Comfortable size: With a 4.5" display, it is not too large and not too small as well.
Minus points:
Last years specifications. It is basically a Nexus 4 with a plastic back and a smaller display. You can just add 20$ and get a better phone, the Nexus 4.
Only 720P video recording.
5 MP camera. As compared to the Moto X's 10 MP camera.
